Lovely Poole, LMSW

Co-Founder/CEO

Therapist

I am a LMSW with over 15 years working with children, adolescents, adults, and
geriatrics. I attained my master’s degree from Clark Atlanta University an HBCU. I am a
therapist with extensive experience working in the medical and mental health field.
According to research, while receiving healthcare, racial and ethnic minorities often are
not listened to and are not consistently recognized and respected for their autonomy
and expertise related to their own experience. Observing this professionally and
personally thus ignited a fire to focus on health equity and to develop culturally
responsive services and programs. Seeking additional knowledge on this subject, I am
currently enrolled at Capella University in a Doctoral Program. My doctoral research
focuses on improving health disparities in marginalized communities.

I understand the hesitation of opening and the stigma associated with seeking mental
health support. The historically rooted lack of autonomy and respect experienced by
marginalized communities informs my culturally sensitive approach to care. I provide a
safe space for my clients to develop strategies to overcome negative emotions and to
process trauma. I believe it is a process to take adversity and hardship and change it
into something powerful. Please allow me to support you to develop strategies for
healing.

I use a combination of CBT, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Solution
Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills (DBT skills), and Trauma
Informed approaches. I have worked in multiple social service fields, and this has given
me the insight that is needed to understand systems and how they affect client
emotions with helps me to achieve positive outcomes. In all settings, I’ve witness those
who were in psychological distress and have seen the damaging impact of unaddressed
mental health issues. Nevertheless, I’ve witnessed successes when individuals open
themselves up to support.

Co-Founder

Therapist

I have dedicated my counseling career in serving others. I received my bachelor’s
degree in Psychology from Morehouse College and master’s degree in Clinical Mental
Health Counseling from Argosy University. I have extensive experience working with
the Veteran population with over 15 plus years’ experience working at the Department
of Veteran Affairs. The decision to seek counseling services can be tough and
intimidating, especially when thinking about sharing the most painful parts of your life
with others. Together we will develop awareness of the dynamics, functions, and
patterns that may be creating feelings of distress, sadness, and dissatisfaction. I
believe that we can work together to rediscover your strengths and motivation to
develop strategies to overcome unwanted emotions.

My therapy style combines Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing, which is tailored to the specific
needs of the client. I use a strength-based, multicultural model that focuses on
developing insight while addressing concerns. Through my work with clients, I use
various combinations of play and talk therapy to assist them in identifying their strengths
and reducing negative symptoms of distress. I have experience working with
depression, anxiety, personality disorders, relationship concerns, and behavioral
concerns in children. I specialize working with Black Men and other racial and ethnic
minorities, Veterans, adolescents, and young adults. I take pride in building strong
therapeutic relationships that can create new and lasting changes.
